Main Plotline: You just died. But before we get to that issue, why not settle for a quick lesson in physics?
There are two categories of matter in the world: tangible and intangible. The human body consists of the former; the human soul, the latter. When the body ceases to function, it ceases to hold its intangible soul, and when the gravity-bound physical body is gone, the soul is pulled by gravity through all three dimensions towards the center of the physical earth... and then some.
Souls are pulled through space, through time, to a sort of limbo where all intangible matter has come to rest. For ever bit of tangible matter, an equal and opposite amount of intangible matter exists and has been pulled into this limbo. Because of this, the limbo world is remarkably earthlike.
That doesn't make being dead any easier, though.
Now that the souls are here, they'll have to learn the ways of this new and strange world (that just so happens to look exactly like the one they just came from). Enrolled in the finest— and the sole— institute for supernatural education, these souls seem to have a bright future ahead of them. What could possibly go wrong?
...yeah, not many take that question seriously.
